05 Dec 2009 Saturday 11:41 AM

10:15: Just woke up after a lazy sleep. SATURDAY. I can't express in words how these weekends mean to me. They are the best things that can happen to a Software Engineer. And I could well state that I am in that unlucky slot of people who are in a 24X7 schedule. We don't work round the clock, officially 9:30 hours in office, but you have to get to office on weekends every alternate months! Asked for a work from home... which got trashed as we are the security people and are tied down by other protocols and sophisticated unrealistic fears! The tools that we work upon or the network ranges we deal with are trade secrets but not like any fine advertisement idea or the new product launch kept in warps. It is even hard for an engineer / hacker to find out holes in the wall. But then there is a irrational fear imprinted upon peoples minds that there may be a hacker lurking out in the wild!
All said I don't tell you guys that the world is a perfect Utopia and there is no rational reason to believe there are hackers or malware vendors lurking out. Infact the internet is not at all a safe place, but then is the real world safe?Don't you go out in your car/motorcycle/bi-cycle though there are accidents happening world wide and people dying or getting severely injured in that?
But when it comes to the internet, people get really crazy. It's still like the medieval ages out there.Standardization of services going on security being infused in every layer as people lose faith in people at an alarming rate.
Anyways i have to live with it for some more time. And as i gaze towards the future which can be rewarding or punishing based on a 100 external factors direct and indirect, I still have hopes and dreams of that fine day I wake up and find out, I don't need to goto office on a weekend as a routine activity delving down into the peace of weekends.
